We opened our doors on May 3, 1999. Promise of Hope is a faith-based organization offering assistance and biblical guidance to women over the age of eighteen suffering from the disease of addiction. The program is set to house 12 residents for a period of six to twelve months. Extension can be granted if desired by the resident and approved by the Advisory Board. Food, personal hygiene products, laundry, clothing if needed, educational literature, paper products, transportation to church, AA and NA meetings, are provided by the ministry. The basic needs of our residents are much like anyone in a home setting. Bible study is offered twice a week and the residents attend church on Sunday, and AA, NA meetings week nights. In addition, they are taught living skills, educated on the nature of progression, the characteristics of chemical dependency, and co-dependency issues. After the initial 90 day period, participants begin a work program and contribute back to the program from thier wages to help cover their room and board.
Promise of Hope creates a safe and positive atmosphere for the residents; accountability to the rules and regulations of the program help to maintain this atmosphere. The residents are responsible to work together to complete chores, take turns cooking, and are responsible for the cleanliness of their personal bed area and laundry.
Promise of Hope program is one of structure, teaching the importance of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Discipline and accountability for following the rules of the program are taught. The residents are instructed on the process of becoming honest and taught communication skills. These skills help them begin to identify their feelings, not to be afraid of them and how to deal with different personalities. All of this is focused on one day at a time. A Family Day is held monthly to help educate the family and begin the restoration process through an understanding of the disease. These groups are led by a certified addiction counselor.
The property was purchased in the spring of 2001. Funds were borrowed at a local bank to make the purchase; and through the generosity of an anonymous donor this debt was retired October 2006.The facilities are comprised of two modest resident buildings, and an administrative building. Construction is underway on a chaple and storage building funded by private donations and grants. Pastures and hay fields surround the property.
Promise of Hope Ministry is a 501C-3 organization. We do not have a geographical limit, providing a bed is available at the time of need. In September of 1999 the ministry became a member in good standing with Georgia Association of Recovery Residences. This accreditation states that the ministry provides appropriate services for women who suffer from chemical dependency. |
